It’s time to rise, I open my eyes And my hopeful heart takes wing This room is so bright, bathed in light And it makes me want to sing I leap from my bed and fill my head With the promises today might bring So much to do, an adventure or two And it makes me want to sing There are some who would say That the future of our world lies In the shadow of a big, black cloud But I see the sun breaking free, breaking through And I want to sing out loud I want to sing out loud So, I write down some words and greet the birds Maybe they can sing along I'll hum them my tune and by afternoon We’ll create some magical song Now on with the day, one question if I may Where does it go from here? Do I keep it inside, just let it hide? Or do I spread it ‘round the world, far and near There are some who would say... Now gather round to hear my sound There’s a story I want to share A time and a place for the whole human race Where all troubles fly off in the air So away with your fear, sing loud and clear And welcome the joy it will bring This joy I have found is all around And it makes me want to sing

Greet each day with searching eyes Look for truth in the face of lies But once in awhile, let your mind be free To imagine things as they could or ought to be With a delicate brush, it paints a new sky Reshapes the clouds, turns the sun on high Creates this dream no one else can see Envisions a world of endless possibilities It opens it’s wings and soars to new heights Finds dark corners and sheds some light Calls to the child and the hero within To fill the spirit with wonder and let this journey begin Away on a path of light To explore unknown lands Climb the highest mountains Behold the view of giants Launch into the stars Discover friendly planets Build fantastic cities Inhabit them with gods And as the night unfolds The sky reveals a soul Aurora dancing wildly Rembrandt’s colours on fire Speeding towards the dawn Advancing, evolving, growing Alive among the stars Rational being, child romantic, he soars The journey ends up just beyond This world we know and live upon A vision of life towards ideal The waking mind will soon discover it’s not yet real Though it seems an impossible place and time Reality is not so far behind Follow a line from cause to effect And show the laws of nature their due respect The world can be more than what it may seem This one thought becomes a theme Seeking expression, seeking form Growing inside a creative soul, soon to be born Into a book or onto a screen There are many places we could take this dream Chisel a stone until the shape is right Paint on a canvas in fanciful flight But this is the life it will live and hold strong Sing to the bright sky, this vision is now a song

A Song 03:08
Waterfalls, stepping stones Coloured leaves sing and dance In the stream of love In the flow of life Myths and legends Echo through forests of time Take this day with open hands Be a river, be a song With a beating heart In the autumn sun An ancient tale Of childhood dreams The water sings For all who listen Time, when it’s lost, has no need to be found And news from the mean old world dies on the breeze Here in this place, a melody’s grace Fills the air, puts a troubled mind at ease Waterfalls, stepping stones Coloured leaves sing and dance In the stream of love In the flow of life The water sings The water sings Take this day, with open hands Be a river, be a song With a beating heart In the autumn sun An ancient tale Of childhood dreams In the stream of love In the flow of life The water sings The water sings... a song

Just Clouds 10:52
Storm clouds are gathering Farewell, morning sky The promises of sunrise And hope appear to die Storm clouds gather Blacken my morning sky I hear crowds whisper They say all hope will die Just a lot of rumours Of how all hope will die They’re just clouds, I say They will soon go away The sky is still blue It’s just hidden from our view They stare, disbelieving Saying my mind is lost Wrapped in self-deceiving For which I’ll pay a cost All this self-deceiving Will bear such a heavy cost It’s just rain, I say It will bring crops our way And when the rainfall ends We can sing and dance with our friends Just a thunderstorm Cold air meeting warm And when the storm has cleared We will laugh at what we feared But they persist And I begin to see That they welcome these clouds As the way it all should be “Come over to the dark side”, They whisper into my ear “Reside in the shadows Explore your deepest fear” “Come over to the dark side We beg you to join us here Reside in the shadows Explore your deepest fear Here, there is mystery A vast uncharted unknown We push the boundaries Uncertainty becomes home” “New adventures Never been tried before Progression, innovation Beyond each creaking door” “The future of our world lies In the shadow of a big, black cloud” But I see the sun breaking through Storm clouds open The wind shakes every tree A deafening thunder Silences my plea Such a roaring thunder And no one hears my plea Just a storm, I sigh But the crowds chant their reply Leaving doubt where the sun once shone And my dream, it is all but gone I wander through the chaos Feeling tired and drained Unsure if my spirit follows Or is washed up by the rain

Birthright 06:37
I have always known the truth I was born into it’s glory Lost sight of it in my youth Believing in all those stories Now I’m on my way back home They say I can’t go there again This long road I walk alone They say it is paved with pain But my eyes see cloudless sky And my spirit finds it’s compass This vision I can’t deny I see it come into focus There’s no greater song to sing Than the one inside your heart There’s no greater life to live So isn’t it time to start? I’ve had days ‘neath darkening skies And thought I’d faced my deepest fears But now I have to close my eyes When this brilliant light appears It is shining from within Illuminates my very being I don’t know where to begin On this path that I am seeing I am timid and filled with dread Though my heart, my heart rejoices There’s a battle inside my head A vision of grandeur in a sea of doubting voices Take comfort in shadows, my friend For they allow our souls to blend Accept who you are, as we all are too Unworthy of glory and damned through and through This brilliant light you see It is all you are meant to be A birthright, your own light You can claim it each new day Power beyond measure Let it shine and guide the way There’s no greater song to sing Than the one inside your heart There’s no greater life to live So isn’t it time to start?

'La La La: Variations On a Happy Song' is a suite consisting of nine thematically connected parts. Though the title may be a good descriptive starting point, it should be stressed that it's not all happy-happy, joy-joy. Throughout its 57 minutes, there are heady conflicts and quirky twists and turns; contrasts of light and dark, quiet and bombast, melancholy and elation. An epic journey for the creative spirit.
